riding on the subway, trying not to notice the way your mouth moves when you talk sitting kind of sideways, hoping you might see me and then we could go for a walk wouldn't it be nice if you just sat down next to me we could talk for hours and hold hands so quietly but you walk along, and then you're gone you walk along, and then you're gone you walk along, and then you're gone gone away from me to the dark-haired beauty in the snack aisle: i really liked our game when you passed by and you smiled, i nearly forgot my name wouldn't it be nice if we could just get back together eat our chips and dips and watch some old movies forever but you walk along, and then you're gone you walk along, and then you're gone you walk along, and then you're gone gone away from me paper diamond, orange peel, the best night of my life 'i have to go, you're beautiful,' and then into the night wouldn't it be nice if there was no such thing as curfew we could drink and dance and i might fall in love with you but you walk along, and then you're gone you walk along, and then you're gone you walk along, and then you're gone gone away, gone away, gone away from me

I make my choices, I make my blunders, and I’ve always paid my bills, one day if I go under it will just be because of my own will… And I am no one who could keep loving, no, don’t fall for me, my girl, try it and you’ll have nothing, and at the end you will feel only hurt… (Chorus) Whatever I do, I don’t regret it, I’m a traveler through time, what I don’t have, until I don’t get it, I have no peace of mind… I love sweet women, the grass is greener always just behind the fence… a scoundrel or a dreamer…? I don’t care at all, but I take my chance… And I always long for what is taken, and I’ll conquer all your heart, but when you are forsaken, you will see who I am and who you are… (Chorus) Whatever I do, I don’t regret it, I’m a traveler through time, what I don’t have, until I don’t get it, I have no peace of mind… (Bridge) Don’t say I did not warn you, I never meant to harm you, but the choice was yours… (Chorus) Whatever I do, I don’t regret it, I’m a traveler through time, what I don’t have, until I don’t get it, I have no peace of mind…

all of this time with words that spiral into webs countless empty images you said we were fine but our definitions differ all of this time i tried to get by thinking you were right but you were a liar, liar, luh-la-lie you were a liar, liar, luh-la-lie you were a liar, liar, luh-la-lie you were a liar, liar, luh-la-lie luh-la-lie we used to be close: you told me when you made me cry it isn't how it hurts, but why and now that i know the sting is so much deeper i should have known that you couldn't show me the light cos you were a liar, liar, luh-la-lie you were a liar, liar, luh-la-lie you were a liar, liar, luh-la-lie you were a liar, liar, luh-la-lie luh-la-lie i guess i flew too close to the sun and now we're done cos you were a liar, liar, luh-la-lie you were a liar, liar, luh-la-lie you were a liar, liar, luh-la-lie you were a liar, liar, luh-la-lie luh-la-lie

we trade our nine-to-five for going ninety-five down 95, we don't give a damn they said to read the signs and we saw dollar signs in both our eyes, now we're on the lam i saw those bright lights, pulling me over you said 'drive faster, you're our getaway chauffeur' take time, and put on your makeup this time, we're gonna shake it up i swear consider all our wishes: to bathe in our new riches understand, we make quite a team we'll turn our life of crime into leisure time on private islands, we can live the dream we've got a trunk packed full of hundred dollar bills how's that for relevant job skills? do what you love, and the money will follow no, take what you want, cos that money is hollow if diamonds are a girl's best friend aren't we all jewel thieves in the end?

i'm trying so hard to keep it together you promised me once it will only get better ooh ooh when you hear these words, will you find me wanting? am i giving up, or is this restarting? ooh ooh and maybe i'm wasting your time i try to be honest, but words are harder to find and these self-indulgent words aren't enough hi, here is my heart. please just be gentle i'm learning to trust, but it's incremental ooh ooh

i think i'm in love with the curve of your lines the way you use colors the way you keep time i think i'm in love with the way that you stand your elbows mirror your kneecaps your hips rest under your hands and i must say, my dear, that i have never dreamt like this before and i must say, my dear, my love i hope you open up that door cos i want to try to find some time to make you mine yes i want to try to find some time to make you mine now i wanna know if you'd ever tell me all of your secrets come out of your shell and i wanna know in what you believe does it soar over the treetops? does it swim deep under the sea? and i must say, my dear, that i am not sure what's right anymore and i must say, my dear, my love i hope you aren't keeping score cos i want to try to find some time to make you mine yes i want to try to find some time to make you mine and even if the sun cannot open up your heart i promise that i will not fall apart

you keep saying its over but can't look in my eyes you don't want to hurt me don't want to see me cry you keep saying it's over but you won't walk away just look to the ground when I ask you to stay if you're happier there I accept that we're done it just didn't work out sorry you're not the one but I'll never forget you I'll say hello when we pass till the day that you realise that you left me to fast you keep saying it's over but you won't walk away just look to the ground when I ask you to stay are those tears in your eyes don't pretend I'll be missed some one is waiting for you so this is our last kiss you keep saying it's over then touching my face why tell me you're sorry and you just need the space you keep saying it's over but you won't walk away just look to the ground when I ask you to stay © copyright house all rights reserved

Angel Cake 02:49
take a pencil pick a word, and write it down make a picture sing a color, draw a sound and i remember when we were not eighteen years old hug a stranger read a book in bed hear a lecture wear fine hats upon your head and i remember when we were not eighteen years old parmesan and modern art hula hoops and hands on hearts we trust ourselves to make a start and end and we'll do it all again when you hear that morning sound remember you're both lost and found and if the church bells hit the air they promise, oh, to keep you there cross my heart and hope to live swear on all my love to give and if die before i wake bury me with angel cake parmesan and modern art hula hoops and hands on hearts we trust ourselves to make a start and end and we'll do it all again empty swings in setting sun braces bear no bubblegum we trust ourselves to find the fun within and we'll do it all again

welcome to the game this is a gurgitator's table the time is now, let's count it down i'm ready and i'm able i spent a year in training built my own strategic flavor a victory is imminent, that's what i want to savor from the first bite to the last fight i will overcome it's all about the rhythm it's all about the dance if you want to be the winner then you've got to take the chance minds can triumph over bodies if your stomach's in your head you have to "eat it to defeat it" grind your bones to make my bread from the first bite to the last fight i will overcome we think we eat we are we know i am the best so start the show five four three two

You keep going on Never be able to quit We could stop fighting demons And vampires til the sun comes up But I just can't die And I want into the fray Party rock and slay with or without you, B We're five-by-five and we're staying alive I'm known to be relentless The stakes are high One's strapped to my thigh Don't give a shit about repentance I don't need anyone I really don't need you She's the so-called queen B What the hell about me? Her with all her friends I don't need Scoobies I wanna rock slay and screw Don't give a fuck about you Don't get attached to me Xander

your sunflower arms stretch up toward the sun the gold in your hair like a medal you've won a whisper, a promise you tell me to keep in the hours and hours until we fall asleep and you drift away from me it isn't fair, it isn't fine and here i am, left to stand alone your dark braid unravels and time is slipping fast we tuck words in our pockets to save the best for last so hum us a song dear, sing soft and sing true, like the murmurs of the angels when their thoughts spill into you and you drift away from me it isn't fair, it isn't fine and here i am, left to stand alone mmmmm and you drift away from me it isn't fair, it isn't fine and here i am, left to stand alone

standing in the corner, oh-so-tall i've read your work in magazines you hold my hand, you tell me things like that hole in your head just there: did it come from a drug bust? or did it come from love-lust? when your body slips below we'll say your name repeatedly in the shadows of your photographs we'll drown in all the sound kidnappers in racerbacks, sing their story, melancholy, the piano will not play itself and a daughter of the velvet underground is touching stuff that lincoln touched she licks her lips, she spills your guts when your body slips below we'll say your name repeatedly in the shadows of your photographs we'll drown in all the sound it's a long way home from here it's a long way home from here soon your time will come; don't bother to run (i wouldn't be caught dead in this place, in this place) it's a long way home from here it's a long way home from here

i can have anything that i want but what i want is for you to just leave me alone not for forever just til you feel better my brain needs some time of its own please try to be just a bit happier for me - you'd be happy if you'd stop thinking so negatively i don't want to listen to you whining, complaining when i come around i've heard this before can't we cover new ground i'm sorry, you're bringing me down life is a beautiful, wonderful, magical thing, can't you feel when you breathe in and out? if you look hard enough, you might find love in the likeliest places so chill the fuck out. please try to be just a bit happier for me - you'd be happy if you'd stop thinking so negatively i don't want to listen to you whining, complaining when i come around i've heard this before can't we cover new ground i'm sorry, you're bringing me down

VERSE 1 I was thinking back To those 70s days When female athletes Gained so much praise for breaking down The glass ceilings in sport Diane Crump rode the Kentucky Derby The first woman of NASCAR was Janet Guthrie And Billie Jean King served the ultimate tennis retort PRE-CHOURS And then there was . . . CHORUS Little Arlene So small and petite But Little Arlene, She really could eat Every man thinks He's the king of the table But Little Arlene . . . She earned that label VERSE 2 Now, the Seventy-Sixers Were a basketball team With a halftime show That made fans scream 'Cause Arlene's eating Left mouths open in shock One time she challenged Five huge guys Known as the Phil-ups Each twice her size Food was brought out And she just said "let's rock" PRE-CHORUS Because she was . . . CHORUS VERSE 3 She ate twenty-three hot dogs Twenty-two pizza slices Sixteen large cokes While the men were all in crisis Even all together They just could not compete Their guts were all a-tumble And as they left the floor Arlene faced the crowd and said She was ready to eat more An Oyster eating contest at the restaurant down the street BRIDGE And the thing that no one knew Until the team staff went to pay Arlene's bill at the hotel Where she'd stayed before the game Was that *before* the half-time show And her triumphant food fight She'd had a full-course roast beef dinner Just to stoke her appetite PRECHROUS And that was . . . CHORUS X2

if every failure pushed deeper down these knees would be buried deep within the ground but that's not how it goes as far as anybody knows and if every moment we tried to keep reliving forever while we were asleep did not disappear - what would we be doing here? nothing ends quite the way it starts so tend the pieces of your torn-up hearts nothing starts quite the way it ends maybe one day we'll do it again life is hard, but you are loved life is hard, but you are loved life is hard, but you are loved by me think about your family and know that they love you think about your friends and know that they love you think about your gods and know that they love you love you, love you, love you, love you think about your children, you know that they love you think about your mother, oh you know that she loves you think about the world it's a place full of people who love you, love you, love you, love you

about

During February of 2014, I participated in February Album Writing Month, colloquially known as FAWM. These songs were all written and recorded during a one-month period (most were done in only a few hours) and feature a variety of collaborators, half of whom I'd never met before. It was a fun project and some great - and not-so-great - songs came out of it. Here are all of my demos for your enjoyment, in the same order they were originally posted on fawm.org.

Some of the best tracks to come out of this project made it on to my sophomore album, "Can You Hear Me?" so check those out to see how they polished up. Thanks for listening!
